San Francisco Residence

Overlooking the Palace of Fine Arts, Martin Young Design updated a Cow Hollow home built in 1911 with classical references inspired by the Beaux-Arts monument.  Throughout the interiors, antiques, custom design furnishing, unique objects, and heirloom textiles combine to create a minimal but warm environment. A half-round bay window in the house's spacious kitchen and breakfast nook showcases views of the iconic San Francisco landmark when sitting at the yacht designed dining table.

Indoor-outdoor views from the terrace and adjacent living room inspired a terrazzo patterned flatweave rug handwoven in Guatemala. Curvilinear shapes juxtapose with angular ones on the carpet while a 19th-century Scottish mirror with corinthian columns captures glimpses of the Golden Gate Bridge and elements within the space. For seating, a Louis Xlll chaise lounge mixes with a contemporary sofa and mid-century Danish chairs.   In the dining room, an Italian early 19th-century 12-foot long walnut dining table sculpturally stands on a watercolor designed rug, while a mid-century pendant illuminates the room.
