Silicon Valley Pied-à-Terre

This 950 sqft townhouse, located between Menlo Park and San Francisco, is filled with vintage furnishings and found pieces that naturally blend with the home’s contemporary architecture. The residence possesses a meticulously curated art collection that includes a portrait by Dutch photographer, Rineke Dijkstra, a series of three atmospheric images from Richard Misrach, and re-purposed antique chalkboards. Martin Young Design designed and fabricated the living room armchairs and ottomans as well as the bed frame in the master suite using vintage Turkish flatweave rugs. Elements were conceived as anchors for the multi-functional open space, creating a contemporary and warm environment. For furnishings, close attention to texture and detail juxtaposing bold handwoven textiles with restrained natural wood tones. Antiques, vintage finds, and trade pieces from around the world combine effortlessly. Layered materials were composed to be both visually and physically tactile. The finished home is both luxurious and comfortable without excess, suiting the needs of an eclectic Silicon Valley couple.
